Overview

We offer you a three day adventure Tour to one of the mountainous region’s of Georgia in Racha.

This is a highland area in western Georgia, located in the upper Rioni river valley and hemmed in by the Greater Caucasus mountains. Racha is the historical-geographical part of our country. Currently, Racha is divided into Oni and Ambrolauri municipalities. Ambrolauri municipality is located on the southern slope of the Caucasus system. Its southeastern border runs along the Racha Ridge, and to the north lies the Lechkhumi Ridge.

There is a Shaori water reservoir in Ambrolauri, which is the largest reservoir in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

The region is quite rich with cultural monuments and diverse nature. Racha is well-known with the masterpiece of Georgian architecture, Nikortsminda that is characterized with rich and sophisticated ornaments.

In addition to the interesting cultural sites, you can enjoy chilly forests, alpine lakes, beautiful waterfalls and stunning views in Racha.

Racha is at 2000 m above sea level and the climate is humid, winters are cold and long, summers are short, warm and sometimes hot. In the highest parts of Racha (above 2000 meters) there is humid climate Racha in summer, which is not usual for a real summer in Georgia.

Prometheus Caves
Prometheus Caves

The magic cave is full with stunning curtains of stalactites and stalagmites. While visiting, once again it will convince you about existence of the fairy world. Prometheus Cave is located in Tskaltubo municipality, village Kumistavi. There are 22 halls found, where just 6 halls are open for tourists. It is possible to walk through the length of 1420 meters in the cave's territory visit the halls and enjoy boat tour by walking the river. Discover real masterpieces of nature - stalactites and stalagmites at Prometheus Cave, which are the most beautiful forms created by nature. While visiting the cave, hanging waterfalls are waiting for you.

Rachkha waterfall
Rachkha waterfall

Rachkha waterfall is located in Lechkhumi at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level. The waterfall flowing down onto the moss-covered stones of the gorge is a very beautiful sight, which attracts many nature lovers. It is surrounded by deciduous forest and forms a beautiful picture both among the spring greenery and in the fall. The waterfall is located on the edge of the road and is perfect for a picnic and relaxing in the tranquility of nature with family and friends.

Lailashi village
Lailashi village

This place used to be a famous trade settlement where the Georgians, the Jews, the Armenians and the Greeks lived peacefully together. In the 1940s the Lailash bible dated back to the X century was found in the community synagogue.
Unfortunately, the fire in 1904 destroyed more than 150 houses, and very few ancient buildings survived in the village.
Two years ago the Internet was flooded with pictures made at the Lailashi pool: azure spring water of the water reservoir with a view of the Ladjanuri reservoir is truly impressive. We recommend that you go here on a hot day to refresh in the purest spring water.

Gvirishi Waterfall
Gvirishi Waterfall

It was named after village Kveda Gvirishi (Lower Gvirishi). Water flows from 80m mountain cliff top and falls in river Lajanuri (named after Lajana village). River Lajanuri ends up in river Rioni.

Sairme Pillars
Sairme Pillars

The desert of Sairme is located between village Alpana and Chreloba, near the village Sairme. On the right bank of the river Rioni, from the mountain pass, where the road folds between the uphill and downhill, one can see Sairme Pillars.
On the territory of Sairme deserts there is organized a route, called “Sairme Pillars”, which is about 3 km long. The road binds up in the forest from the mountain pass, where you can drive a 4X4 car for about 1 km. later, so you will have to go on by foot, as the road becomes very narrow, and continues walking up and up, in the uphill of the forest. After passing by that uphill, the road leads you on the peak of the mountain. Here you will come across the ruins of the Middle Age Virgin Mary’s Church. After walking several kilometers away from the ruins, the pass finishes on the peak of the mountain, 680 kilometers away from the sea level. And in front of you, there are picturesque views and wonderful sights of Sairme Pillars.

Waterfall of beloved
Waterfall of beloved

Ambrolauri, the main city of Racha, is famous mostly for its wines: here you can taste Khvanchkara, Tvishi and Aleksandrouli from the nearby vineyards.
Very few people know that in the city there is a true wonder of nature – a heart-shaped rock.
If you walk further 5 minutes after the love waterfall, on your left you will see a path that leads to the second waterfall which is higher and even more impressive.

Znakva Waterfall
Znakva Waterfall

A very picturisque place with three level cascades of waterfall. We get to this place on off-road SUV and second part of the route 1 hour trekking is waithing for you in green forest.

Shareula river
Shareula river

Birth place of Shareula river is waiting for adventure lovers. Part of the route suppose 40 minutes trekking and even Shareula river crossing on foot.

Iced Cave
Iced Cave

A natural cave in Racha, Ambrolauri Municipality, 1200 meters above sea level. Produced in Lower Cretaceous limestones. The cave contains ice stalactites, stalagmites, centuries-old ice columns (some columns are 8 meters high, while the circumference is 20 meters) and cascades.
Cave-freezer - a deep cave in the rock, a natural well, where the temperature is zero degrees at any time of the year, and water droplets seeping from the rock turn into ice as soon as they fall to the ground.

Shaori Reservoir
Shaori Reservoir

Shaori Reservoir is one of the most attractive places in Racha. Heading to Racha, you cannot overpass the Reservoir which dazzles you with its landscape. Shaori Reservoir is not a very popular tourist destination; however, on the plus side, it makes the place more interesting. People who love to wander frequently search for places which are not overcrowded with visitors and tourists and, at the same time, where they can spend a pleasant weekend in nature.
Located at the altitude of 1100-1200 meters, Shaori Reservoir is the biggest in Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti region. The Reservoir is inside a structural basin formed by the damming of Shaori River and surrounded by mixed deciduous trees. There had been two lakes in this basin – Kharistvali and Dzrikhistvali, which are now covered with the reservoir waters. The length of Shaori Lake is 7.1km, greatest width – 2.7km and maximum depth – 14.5 meters.

Nine Crosses pass or Tskhra Jvari pass
Nine Crosses pass or Tskhra Jvari pass

On the border of Imereti and Racha regions, on the Nakerala pass is the mountain Tskhra Jvari. Translated means the mountain of Nine Crosses. Once during the Soviet Union here led a cable car from the town of Tkibuli. Now only the abandoned building of the upper station reminds of the cable car.
On its top of the mountain are the ruins of an ancient temple, on the territory of which there are nine iron crosses.
A folk legend about this place says when the Turks wanted to conquer Georgia, in the neighborhood of Saragarhi lived a family of 9 brothers. They went to fight for their Homeland – Georgia. Each time the father of the family set on the mountain one cross, praying to God to return his sons. The father’s faith was too strong, and the brothers returned home unharmed. Since this mountain is called, Saragarhi or Tskhra Jvari.
